Head Of Scrow Beck

Incident 1 of 2020:-
1/1/20, 13:52hrs, Head of Scrow Beck, SD278976

Our first incident of the year was on a cold and foggy New Year’s Day. A young man had injured his ankle near to Low Moss Head quarry, and was not able to bear weight, so his family called Cumbria Police. They asked us to help, so we sent 3 Land Rovers up old miners’ tracks as close to the casualty as we could get, then walked the rest.

After assessment and pain relief, the young man’s ankle was splinted and we carried him on a stretcher down to Bursting Stone quarry. One of our Land Rovers was converted into ambulance mode, and the stretcher loaded on board. We drove him down to the Walna Scar car park, from where his parents took him to A&E.

This incident was attended by 13 volunteer team members, and lasted 2hrs 20mins.
