Pudding Stone

Incident 17 of 2025:-
07/05/25, 17.09, Pudding Stone, SD280984
It was another sunny afternoon in the Lakes, and two men were bouldering on the Pudding Stone at the end of the Coppermines valley when one of them fell from quite high up. Even though he fell partially onto their crash mat, his ankle was injured and they called for help. North-West Ambulance Service called us out, and we despatched two Land Rovers up old miners’ tracks towards the Pudding Stone. Ironically, the scenario we practice most often in cas care training at base is a fallen climber at this precise location, so we had plenty of virtual experience to rely on.
Once with the casualty, he was assessed, strong pain relief given, the ankle splinted, and then we decided to evacuate him in our vacuum mattress because the nature of his fall made us worry about injuries other than the ankle. He was loaded onto a stretcher for the relatively short carry to our vehicles, and then transported to our base for handover to a land ambulance which would take him to Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
14 volunteer members attended this incident, which lasted for 2 hours 40 minutes.
