Coniston Water 1st September 2017 18:06hrs 29/2017
It was a warm clear evening in Coniston and the forecast looked good for the weekend.
The team were contacted by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) to assist them in the evacuation of a man that had almost drowned in Coniston Water.
The casualty had been on Peel Island and had gotten into difficulties with his friends.
Along with paramedics from NWAS the Great North Air Ambulance was also assisting along with 3 pumps from Cumbria Fire and Rescue.
The casualty was treated on scene for secondary drowning and was evacuated using our stretcher and a inflatable from Cumbria Fire and Rescue. He was taken to the waiting aircraft for transfer to Preston for further treatment.
The team then assisted with evacuating the family from the lake shore.
Along with a crew from NWAS and the Great North Air Ambulance and 3 Pumps from Cumbria Fire and Rescue , 13 members of Coniston MRT attended this rescue which lasted just under two hours.
