Incident 47 of 2023:-
22/09/23, 14.05, Saddlestone Quarry, SD279981
It was a showery day, when a gentleman unfortunately slipped and hurt his ankle near the top of the Old Man of Coniston. Kind passers-by strapped the ankle so that he could attempt to self-rescue, and he made it a good way down before the pain was too much and he had to stop. Cumbria Police asked us to help, and we sent three Land Rovers to the nearest driveable point.
Once with the casualty, he was assessed and the ankle was splinted. He was then placed onto our stretcher and we brought him down to the Land Rovers. One was converted into an ambulance, and he was driven to our base. He was then carefully loaded into his car and his wife drove him to Furness General Hospital for further treatment.
13 volunteer team members attended for 2 hours and 30 minutes.
