Incident 22 of 2024:-
15/04/24, 14.07, Park Fell, NY341025
Spring was being a bit shy in the Lakes – we had snow on the tops, hail in the valleys, water-logged ground and gusting winds. A couple had wisely opted for a lower-level walk around Black Fell, but the man slipped on a greasy slab and hurt his ankle. He was unable to move further, so called for help. Cumbria Police initially alerted Langdale & Ambleside Mountain Rescue to the incident. However, the location was actually on Coniston’s patch so our TL was contacted by LAMRT and the job transferred over to us. We despatched all three Land Rovers to his known location on Park Fell.
On arrival, he was assessed, pain relief given and the ankle splinted. We then carried him down on our stretcher to the road. Because there were no land ambulances available, we were fortunately allocated Helimed 08 from Blackpool. We met them at the John Ruskin School playing field, where our casualty was transferred onto the helicopter to go to Furness General Hospital for further treatment.
12 volunteer team members attended for just under 4 hours.
