Incident 33 of 2024:-
19/06/24, 11:23, Cathedral Quarry, NY313028
Summer was finally arriving, and an organised party of youths was exploring Cathedral Quarry when one of the party tumbled down a slate scree slope next to the quarry and was injured. The organisers called for help but Cumbria Police originally tasked Langdale & Ambleside MRT to the incident. Their Team Leader rang ours and then transferred the callout to Coniston. We despatched two Land Rovers to the scene, and some members made their own way there. Helimed 58 from Langwathby also attended, landing very close, and their paramedics took over the assessment of the boy.
Eventually, it was decided to assist him down to our Land Rover on the track below, as his injuries were not as serious as initially thought. We drove him back to our base to be met by a land ambulance. He was further assessed before being transported by NW Ambulance Service to Furness General Hospital to treat a potential wrist fracture.
15 volunteer team members attended for 2 hours.
