Church Beck

Incident 40 of 2023:-
10/08/23, 10.36, Church Beck, SD296979
It was a dry, sunny day as a family and their dog walked up the track beside Church Beck. Unfortunately, the dog went over the edge and landed in the beck. Although a passing walker tried to help, the dog could not be extricated safely. Cumbria Police called us to help, and we sent two Land Rovers to the closest point, just southeast of Miners’ Bridge. A rope system was set up for the Team members and the dog was finally recovered from the water, having suddenly found himself learning to swim. He was treated for his injuries on-scene before his owners then took him to the local vets which had been made aware of his pending arrival.
During the rescue it was observed that a lamb was well stuck on the opposite side of the Ghyll. So once the dog was re-united with the family we then turned our attention to rescuing the lamb. This was quickly and successfully achieved and released safely back onto the main track.
12 members attended for 3 hours.
