Latterbarrow

Incident 26 of 2024:-
06/05/24, 11.20, Latterbarrow, SD364991
It was another mild and dry day as a party descended from Latterbarrow, when a lady slipped and tumbled down the stone steps. She sustained several injuries, the most serious one being to her head. Cumbria Police called Kendal MRT, but the incident was transferred to us because it was in our patch. We despatched two Land Rovers. She was assessed and a neck brace fitted before being carefully placed on our stretcher.
Because of the possible serious nature of her injuries, we had called for helicopter assistance, and Helimed 58 from Great North Air Ambulance at Langwathby (G-NHAE) attended, landing near to the Latterbarrow summit. We carried the casualty up the rock steps to the fell-top, where their crew took over. She was then loaded into the helicopter for transport to Furness General Hospital for treatment.
14 volunteer team members attended for 2 hours and 28 minutes.
