Old Man of Coniston

Incident 24 of 2021:-

31/07/2021, 15:23, Old Man of Coniston, SD275978

A cool and cloudy day for summer in the Lakes. North West Ambulance Service called for our assistance with a man who had had a medical issue on the main track near to the top of the Old Man of Coniston. Passers-by and family members were administering CPR, and the team deployed a fast response party, taking over CPR on arrival. Two Helimeds and a Coastguard helicopter attended but could not land anywhere near because of the low cloud and turbulence.

The paramedics from the NW Air Ambulance were driven up the hill in our Land Rover as far as possible, then they and more team members ascended the hill. Despite the best efforts of the paramedics and the team for a long time, resuscitation was not possible. The team would like to particularly thank the paramedics and the helping passers-by for going above and beyond in their efforts to help the casualty.

Message on behalf of the family :-

The family were overwhelmed by the number of people who stopped, helped and surrounded them with love and support that afternoon. They felt they were in a circle of love, and want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone. They also wish to thank the gentleman who talked to the Emergency Services and gave them his Hoodie. Unfortunately, during the trauma of the period, they lost his contact details and would like him to get in contact with the Team so that we can pass on his details.

Our thoughts are with the gentleman’s family and friends.

15 members attended and the incident lasted 6 hours and 15 minutes.
