Tarn Hows

Incident 14 of 2022

14/05/22, 15.38pm, Tarn Hows, SD328996

It was a warm sunny afternoon when NWAS (North West Ambulance Service) asked us to go to the assistance of a lady who had collapsed whilst walking round Tarn Hows.

Fortunately two members of our neighbouring Mountain Rescue Team, (Langdale & Ambleside MRT), one of whom is a Doctor, were in the area and went to her aid before our arrival. As we were able to drive practically straight to the casualty, we only despatched one vehicle to the scene whilst two members made their way direct.

The lady, who was conscious when we arrived, was made more comfortable, assessed and treated appropriately. Air support in the form of Helimed from Blackpool, was able to attend and landed close by. She was stretchered the short distance to the helicopter and then airlifted to Furness General Hospital.

14 Rescue personnel responded to this incident which took 2 hours.
