Levers Hawse

Incident 12 of 2025:-
07/04/25, 15.44, Levers Hawse, SD271994
Spring was well-established in the Lakes, with sunny and dry conditions for more than a week. A party was descending the steep track from Levers Hawse when a woman tripped and fell, hurting her ankle quite badly. North-West Ambulance Service called on us to help, and also Helimed 08 from Blackpool due to the nature of her injury. The Helimed crew arrived first, landing at the Hawse, followed by our team walking up with our kit from the Levers Water dam.
The woman was assessed, strong pain relief given, the ankle splinted in a vacuum splint, and she was then packaged into our stretcher. The stretcher carry options up and down were tough, and we were grateful that HM Coastguard helicopter Rescue 936 from Caernarfon became available to assist. The casualty was winched up into R936 and flown to Walney Airfield for land ambulance transfer to Furness General Hospital.
17 volunteer team members attended this incident, which lasted for 3.5 hours. Thanks to both helicopter crews – this could have been much longer without them.
